The Logistics Leaders Russia conference, hosted and organised by autoMOTIVE magazines, will examine in detail issues such as the lack of usable highways, the shortage of ports equipped with import/export infrastructure, the aging rail network, customs, security and insurance considerations, the sourcing of local suppliers, inbound and production logistics for the many new assembly plants and component suppliers and the concentration upon Russia’s western region so as to benefit from the import route through Finland. Some 70% of new cars shipped to Russia are delivered via Finland but, if greater importance is to be placed upon distribution in more far-flung regions, routes will need to be developed from the south and east via the Black Sea and trans-Siberia. The latter routing will become important to facilitate the expected influx of vehicles from China and Korea whilst the southern route will permit the flow of vehicles between Russia and some of the former Soviet states such as Kazakhstan.
